All-New 2007 Honda Fit Achieves Top "5-Star" Safety Rating

The 2007 Honda Fit has earned a "5-Star" safety rating for frontal crash performance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. A "5-Star" rating is the highest government safety rating.

Ninety-nine percent of Honda-branded vehicles on a sales-weighted average now achieve this top front impact rating under the federal government's NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) program.

"The Fit has the highest level of standard safety equipment of any car in its competitive set," said John Mendel, American Honda senior vice president. "Fit's 5-Star rating demonstrates once again that Honda customers do not have to choose between safety, utility and fuel efficiency. The Fit has it all."

Already a leader in vehicle safety as demonstrated by Honda's "Safety for Everyone" initiative, Honda continues to implement leading airbag technology in all vehicles regardless of size or price. Dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, dual front side airbags and side-curtain airbags are standard equipment on all Fit models. In addition to its six airbags, Fit incorporates 3-point seat belts at all seating positions, as well as two Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) positions in the rear seats. Fit also utilizes active safety systems that include an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution (EBD).

All-new Civic-The 8th generation of Honda’s core car arrives

On each carmaker’s lineup, there’s a core product that strongly defines the company philosophy and demonstrates its technological abilities. Sometimes, that core product enjoys so much success that it reaches iconic status. Honda’s core is the Civic.

The 8th-generation Civic seeks to redress all that, by once again promising sharp handling, good looks, and of course great engines. In this case, two engines: a 1.8 liter that delivers an impressive 140 hp, and a 2.0 that’s good for 155 hp. The 1.8, with an SOHC i-VTEC system, promises the acceleration of a 2-liter engine combined with the fuel economy of a 1.5-liter.

The big news in this class is the availability of a 5-speed manual with the 2-liter. Those choosing the automatic will also have the option to choose gears via racing-style fingertip controls on both sides of the steering wheel. The funky three-spoke oval wheel is adjustable for tilt and reach.

The instrumentation features a futuristic two-tier design, with speedometer and other frequently read gauges at the top for easy viewing; the tachometer and other gauges are mounted on the lower tier. Safety is better than on any previous Civic, with features that are the most complete in its class. The Civic comes with Vehicle Stability Assist and four airbags for the 2.0 liter model, and ABS-EBD standard except on the base 1.8V. The Civic features four-wheel independent suspension, with Honda’s trademark double wishbone setup in the rear, with disc brakes on all four corners.

2006 Honda Accord

The 2006 Honda Accord simply does everything well. It may not be best in class in every single area, but there is nothing it does poorly. And the coupe packs the Accord's attributes into a sporty two-door.

For 2006, the Accord gets a freshened look inside and out. Meanwhile, Honda has fortified both engines, the standard four-cylinder and the optional V6, with more horsepower. Accord V6 models get new 17-inch tires and re-tuned suspensions for 2006. And all '06 Accords benefit from enhanced sound insulation.

For these reasons and others, the Honda Accord continues to be one of the best-selling cars in the U.S.

Honda Civic Wins International Design Award

Honda announced that the new Honda Civic for Europe has won the 51st international "red dot: best of the best" award for highest design quality. This is the second time Honda has won the top award after winning it with the Honda S2000 in 2001. The award ceremony will take place on June 26, 2006.

The red dot design award is one of the leading design competitions in the world, held annually by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany. An international jury selects the products of outstanding design quality in 11 categories which are not only related to car design but to product design in general.

The all-new Civic has won the "red dot: best of the best" award in the category of "Transportation." The jury acknowledged that its overall design "marks a revolution," recognizing the innovation as well as the appeal and the high quality of the Civic's design concept.

This year, 2,068 proposals from 41 countries were entered into the competition, and the "red dot: best of the best" for highest design quality has been given to only 36 products, while 485 products received the "red dot" quality label of design.

The Civic will become part of the exhibition for more than one year at the museum of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. The museum displays one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary design worldwide, featuring more than 1,000 products in over 4,000 square metres. In addition, the Civic will appear in the related yearbook, which is considered a standard work in the design field and shows current trends in the industry.

The history of this competition began in 1955 when outstanding international product design was marked with a dot; its present name "red dot" was adopted in 1992, and the competition in its current style was established in 2000.
