All-new Civic-The 8th generation of Honda’s core car arrives

On each carmaker’s lineup, there’s a core product that strongly defines the company philosophy and demonstrates its technological abilities. Sometimes, that core product enjoys so much success that it reaches iconic status. Honda’s core is the Civic.

The 8th-generation Civic seeks to redress all that, by once again promising sharp handling, good looks, and of course great engines. In this case, two engines: a 1.8 liter that delivers an impressive 140 hp, and a 2.0 that’s good for 155 hp. The 1.8, with an SOHC i-VTEC system, promises the acceleration of a 2-liter engine combined with the fuel economy of a 1.5-liter.

The big news in this class is the availability of a 5-speed manual with the 2-liter. Those choosing the automatic will also have the option to choose gears via racing-style fingertip controls on both sides of the steering wheel. The funky three-spoke oval wheel is adjustable for tilt and reach.

The instrumentation features a futuristic two-tier design, with speedometer and other frequently read gauges at the top for easy viewing; the tachometer and other gauges are mounted on the lower tier. Safety is better than on any previous Civic, with features that are the most complete in its class. The Civic comes with Vehicle Stability Assist and four airbags for the 2.0 liter model, and ABS-EBD standard except on the base 1.8V. The Civic features four-wheel independent suspension, with Honda’s trademark double wishbone setup in the rear, with disc brakes on all four corners.

Honda Element SC prototype

Honda recently Introduced the Honda Element SC prototype, here’s what the manufacturer had to say about the all new SC Proto, “The Element SC prototype is the city-dwelling, style-conscious brother of the original Element,” Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda.

All new on the Element is a tuned version of the base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates an additional 10 horsepower, for a total of 166.

Though there’s no word on pricing yet, when it arrives this fall, the production version of the SC will be aimed at a more affluent customer.

As for the looks, the SC oozes urban cool. It’s a true low rider, with lowered sport suspension, aerodynamic body panels and even a chopped roof. Inside, carpet and leather relieve the Spartan environment that permeates today’s Element.

Test-drive the Honda S2000

Honda S2000 roadster is a pure sports cars, front engine, rear-drive, drop-top, few frills.
The Honda's two-seater represents one of the best sports car buys going, as well as an awe-inspiring technological statement by a company that has absolutely no peer in the realm of extracting big horsepower from small displacement engines.
Like all Honda automobiles, the S2000's suspension is independent, with control arms at all four corners. It is distinguished from any other current Honda cars, however, by its front-engine, rear-drive layout, a platform developed specifically for this limited-edition roadster.
As you'd expect of a car in this price range, the S2000 comes with the usual luxury features-leather seats, air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD sound system, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, keyless remote entry, and tilt steering. It also has a big red starter button to the left of the steering wheel.
At the very least, you owe yourself a test drive.

2007 Honda Element SC Emphasizes Style and Performance

The all-new Honda Element will debut this fall with an exclusive sport suspension, larger wheels and tires, unique styling and special features like a carpeted interior and a center console, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced at the 2006 New York International Auto Show.

The Element SC prototype rides 3-inches lower than stock with a sport suspension that delivers sports car-like handling. A front-to-rear aerodynamic body kit further lowers the vehicle's stance, supplementing the new vehicle's performance direction with a ground-hugging presence. High on sophistication, the Element SC smoothly stands out with exclusive features such as fully-painted exterior panels and trim pieces, projector-beam headlights and an aero-enhanced black grille. The interior further complements the city performance demeanor with a driver-oriented center console, copper hue instrument panel lighting backlit with LEDs, piano black trim and a carpeted floor.

"The Element SC prototype is the city-dwelling, style-conscious brother of the original Element," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "Instead of features that accommodate outdoor sports and similar activities, the Element SC injects a new dimension of sophistication into the lineup that can best be characterized as 'night performer.'"

The 2007 Element SC prototype has a 2.4-liter, DOHC, i-VTEC engine that benefits from a 10 horsepower increase over the 2006 Element, bringing the total to 166 horsepower (SAE net revised 8/04). The increase is achieved primarily through the addition of high-flow intake and exhaust systems and high-lift camshafts. Additional enhancements include drive-by-wire throttle control. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, and the available automatic transmission has five forward gears instead of four.

Fulfilling the goals of Honda's "Safety for Everyone" initiative introduced in 2003, all 2007 Elements will provide a core suite of standard safety equipment that goes beyond existing regulations and includes side curtain airbags, driver's side impact airbag, front passenger's side impact airbag, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and ABS. A production vehicle based on the Element SC prototype will go on sale this fall.

The 2006 Honda Civic Sedan

Motor Trend’s car-of-the-year, Honda’s retooled 2006-model Civic sedan’s admirable traits such as its segment topping base 140-hp 4-cylinder 1.8L 16-valve standard engine, standard anti-lock brakes and AC and arguably the best manual stickshift in the compact-car group, make it the most admired car.

Those under whelmed by having to shift gears should try Civic’s optional automatic transmission. That’s a sporty shifter, too, and should be evaluated by reviewers along with a manual transmission.

Affordability is another Civic tradition over these past 20 years, and the 2006 is no exception, with the tested EX sedan sticker at $18,260 (DX at $14,560 and LX at $16,510) excluding destination charge.
