Honda announced that the new Honda Civic for Europe has won the 51st international "red dot: best of the best" award for highest design quality. This is the second time Honda has won the top award after winning it with the Honda S2000 in 2001. The award ceremony will take place on June 26, 2006.
The red dot design award is one of the leading design competitions in the world, held annually by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany. An international jury selects the products of outstanding design quality in 11 categories which are not only related to car design but to product design in general.
The all-new Civic has won the "red dot: best of the best" award in the category of "Transportation." The jury acknowledged that its overall design "marks a revolution," recognizing the innovation as well as the appeal and the high quality of the Civic's design concept.
This year, 2,068 proposals from 41 countries were entered into the competition, and the "red dot: best of the best" for highest design quality has been given to only 36 products, while 485 products received the "red dot" quality label of design.
The Civic will become part of the exhibition for more than one year at the museum of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. The museum displays one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary design worldwide, featuring more than 1,000 products in over 4,000 square metres. In addition, the Civic will appear in the related yearbook, which is considered a standard work in the design field and shows current trends in the industry.
The history of this competition began in 1955 when outstanding international product design was marked with a dot; its present name "red dot" was adopted in 1992, and the competition in its current style was established in 2000.

The Honda style pickup truck
The all-new 2006 Honda Ridgeline doesn't look or act like any other pickup truck we've ever driven. It has a family storage solution in its bed that no other pickup truck can match. And it won't cost an arm and a leg to buy or to operate. Honda says the main competition for the Ridgeline comes from Dodge Dakota, Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Explorer Sport Trac and Toyota Tacoma on size and function.
The Ridgeline is one of the nicest midsize trucks in terms of comfort and ease of use, though some of the others in this class have a bit more dash and flash inside. At the high end, Ridgeline will be offered with a DVD satellite navigation system, displayed on an eight-inch-wide screen, plus XM Satellite Radio, leather seating surfaces and a moonroof.
The Ridgeline will be sold in three different levels of standard equipment, but there are no exterior badges on the tailgate to indicate the model.

2006 Honda Civic Hybrid - The Redesigned Civic Hybrid Sedan
The Honda Civic Hybrid, along with the non-hybrid Civic, has been resigned for 2006. It is much more aerodynamic looking than the 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid and has additional features that were never available in previous years. There still will not be a hatchback model, since that is where the hybrid batteries reside, but the increased horsepower and fuel efficiency still make the Civic Hybrid appealing.

The all-new 2006 Honda Ridgeline doesn't look or act like any other pickup truck we've ever driven. It has a family storage solution in its bed that no other pickup truck can match. And it won't cost an arm and a leg to buy or to operate. Honda says the main competition for the Ridgeline comes from Dodge Dakota, Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Explorer Sport Trac and Toyota Tacoma on size and function.
The Ridgeline is one of the nicest midsize trucks in terms of comfort and ease of use, though some of the others in this class have a bit more dash and flash inside. At the high end, Ridgeline will be offered with a DVD satellite navigation system, displayed on an eight-inch-wide screen, plus XM Satellite Radio, leather seating surfaces and a moonroof.
The Ridgeline will be sold in three different levels of standard equipment, but there are no exterior badges on the tailgate to indicate the model.
The RT ($27,700) is the base model, followed by the RTS ($30,075) and RTL ($31,490) versions, topped by the RTL with a navigation system, XM Satellite Radio and a moonroof ($34,640).
RT has black bumpers, black door handles and steel wheels while the other two use body-color handles and bumpers and alloy wheels. RT has manual seats, RTS and RTL power seats. RT has no lumbar support, RTS has manual lumbar, and RTL has power lumbar. The base RT audio system pumps 100 watts, the other two 160 watts and seven instead of six speakers. RTS has alloy wheels, 6-disc changer, dual-zone climate control, and eight-way driver's seat. RTL has heated leather seats, HomeLink, and XM.
Options include XM Satellite Radio, an MP3 digital interface, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls on RTS and RTL, satellite navigation and a roof-mounted DVD entertainment system.
All models are powered by the excellent Honda 3.5-liter engine, all models will have a five-speed automatic transmission, and all models will have Honda's automatic VTM-4 all-wheel-drive system that normally proportions drive 60 percent to the front wheels, 40 percent to the rear, and can go to 30/70 when necessary. It incorporates a limited-slip differential and a Lock feature.

2006 Honda CR-V Expands Availability of Two-Wheel-Drive Models

The popular Honda CR-V EX trim level is now available in a two-wheel-drive (2WD) version. Until now, the choice of 2WD or four-wheel-drive (4WD) has been exclusive to the LX trim level, and the expansion of 2WD into the more upscale and full-featured EX trim level provides an added dimension of value and fuel economy.
The CR-V EX 2WD provides the same level of premium features as the CR-V EX 4WD including alloy wheels, moonroof, a 6-speaker audio system with 6-disc changer, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, outside temperature gauge and privacy glass. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard on the CR-V EX 2WD which achieves a city/highway EPA fuel economy rating of 23/29 (up from 22/27 on 4WD models with an automatic transmission). The manufacturers suggested retail price is $22,500. The destination and handling charge is $550.
"Two-wheel-drive models comprise an increasing portion of the entry SUV mix," said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda. "Adding two-wheel-drive to the CR-V's EX trim level helps to expand the appeal of one of our most popular SUV's."
